Katherine Jessie Smith 'Kathy’ A true island gyal and a precious pearl perfectedin time. On October 2nd 1952 a bouncing baby girl was bestowed upon the lateFlorina Whymss & Leroy Smith Sr. Kathy was born and raised in AdelaideVillage Israel Street.

During her education time Kathy went to Adelaide all age school, after hercompletion she then went on to New york to live with her aunt and cousins. Afew years later she returned home to Nassau and often visited herGrandparents in South Andros in the summer. Years passed by and she tookover in taking on the motherly role of her (10) siblings after her mother hadpassed and caring for her father during his time of illness.

Kathy began her career journey starting in domestic work alongside her cousinViola, after she went on working at SandPiper where she looked after theworkers' kids. Later on Kathy started working for the Bethel’s doingbabysitting and house cleaning. In 1986, Kathy went on to work at RadissonGolf Course as the maintenance and caretaker. In her spare time Kathy loved togo on the boat fishing, conching and crocheting new things like dresses andplacemats. She was known for all her famous dishes such as tamarind sauce,potato bread, old fashion guava duff, conch fritters in the bag, frying fish onthe firehalf and conch n rice! Kathy opened a stall on Israel street and startedselling food within the community. Everyone loved Kathy for her kind andselfless heart not to mention that juicy pot of hers everyone waited to get ataste of.

In July of 2023, Kathy attended a church service at Believers EmbassyInternational and she gave her life to the Lord. She enjoyed singing songs ofpraises unto Him, most especially her song that she loved dearly ‘ Goodness ofGod ‘. In early December, Kathy and her daughter Tera went shoe shopping.While trying on shoes, Tera noticed a small black spot on Kathy's toe.Concerned about her mother’s toe, Tera called the doctor immediately andKatherine was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital. Here, Katherine spenther last days surrounded by her family and loved ones to get her through hertime of illness. On February 25th, she quietly slipped away to be with ourFather in heaven to take her rest in the “Goodness Of God”.

Katherine Smith brought forth 3 children, of which 1 predeceased her.Katherine was loved by everyone who met her, especially her grandchildren,Vashnique and Ernest Knowles Jr., Valia, Valden Jr. and Vaniecia Fernander ,Neville Jr., Shawn, Ethel, Drake, Ashanti and Miracle Taylor and her greatgrandsons Nekye and Neville Taylor Jr. III.

Katherine leaves to mourn and cherish the memories of her life:Her devoted children: Daughter: Katherine Fernander. Sons: Neville Taylor Sr.,Shirlyn, Richard, Whitney, Jeffrey, Warren, Darren Taylor, Lisandra, Patsyannand Monique Taylor, Melissa Watkins, Francine Butler and Cora Ferguson.Daughter in law: Shan Taylor. Son-in-Law: Valden Fernander Sr. Brothers:Philip, Reuben and Bernard Smith, Stephen, Garth and Tyrone Whymss, TonyMorrison. Sisters: Estella and Beatrice Smith, Priscilla Gibson and MaragretJohnson, Maragret (Armis) Ferrer, Priscilla (Rudolph) Darville, BarbaraMorrison, Belkis Poitier and Michelle Brady. Brothers in law: Richard GibsonSr. Sisters in laws: Cynthia and Jubilee Smith Nephews: Reuben Jr., Derek,Codero and Vanka Smith, Nathaniel Hall, Richard Gibson Jr., Solomon andSullivan Cash, Joseph Oliver, Edroy Smith, Bernard Jr., Arthur Sr. and ArthurJr., Cleveland Johnson, Tyrone Bonaby, Theophilus and Rudolph Coakley.Niece: Abigail Cox, Philippa and Florinda Smith, Rokara (Divince Rolle),Rachelle Gibson, Estella and Victoria Rosenfield, Aretha (Andrew Taylor), Akira(Devano Mackey), Monica Williams, Laquinta Bethel, Amanda (Dion) Rolle,Chardonnay Knowles, Ashley, Anishka and Ashekea Smith, Brandy and AllyahOliver, Cynthra (Elie Ariscar), Patricia Bonaby,Vanda Coakley, MarciaSweeting, Marionette Smith, Rondell and Monica Rolle, Bianca Smith, VanishaEdgecombe, Marcia Demeritt, Kathleen Dawkins, Jennifer (Daniel) Ileida andGenora (Damar) Wellington, Amanda (Lenthius) Burrows and Hattie Balfour.Numerous grandnieces and nephews. 2 Aunt: Arnett Whymss and CenturyRolle. 3 Uncle: Joe Whymss, Sidney (Roda) and Brian Rolle. Extended kids:Lavonda Miller , Avery Hepburn, Dave Demeritt God children: Cherise Miller,Jean Cooper, Jayda Deal, Samuel Kemp Sr., Cleveland Clarke.
